What Was Seen
In 2002 Walgreens designed a new type of
distribution center focused on two objectives: to be the most efficient
ever, and to employ large numbers of people with disabilities in an
integrated work environment. Same standards. Same pay. Side-by-side.
Walgreen’s 700k sq. ft. Connecticut
distribution center is the second facility of this type to be built. The
warehouse began operations in January 2009, and 40% of its workforce is
currently comprised of people with a variety of disabilities. The
facility is an impressive example of how well-thought out ergonomics,
technology, and the understanding of the individual employee, can
drastically improve efficiency, accuracy, and safety. Join us for this
very informative tour to learn how this state-of-the-art facility has
combined with a very diverse workforce to create one of the best
performing warehouses in the Walgreens network.
